38 degrees meeting (9th dec)

The government is gearing up to push through huge changes to our NHS. Experts, doctors and nurses groups are all warning that these changes could mean the end of the NHS as we know it. Services could be broken up, patient care could be undermined, and privatisation could take hold. We’ve only got a few months to stop these plans – if we don’t, it could be too late. [1]

The good news is that we know people power can save the NHS. People power led to the NHS being set up. When politicians have threatened it before, people power has stopped them. If we work together and step up our campaign, we can save the NHS again.

38 Degrees members across the country have been helping to make plans. We’ve agreed that we need to start organising get-togethers across the country. We need to sit down together in pubs, cafes, and front rooms across the country to work out how we get more people involved in the campaign and how to up the pressure on our MPs.

A get-together is happening in Islington at the Woodstore Bar on the 9th December at 7pm. Can you come?

These get-togethers will be a great chance to sit down with other 38 Degrees members in your area. You can talk together about the government’s plans for the NHS and what we can do to stop them. We can get ready to put the pressure on our MPs as the changes go through Parliament.

London is one of the first places to have a 38 Degrees NHS get-together. Other meetings will be happening next week in Oldham, Norwich, Nottingham and Cornwall. In the New Year there’ll be get-togethers happening in even more places, building on lessons from these first meetings. So this is your chance to be one of the first to be involved.

The get together will only take an hour or so. It’ll be a good chance to meet other 38 Degrees members, learn more and think together about what 38 Degrees should do next. We’ve already seen how much impact we can have working together using the Internet. Imagine how much more influence we will have when MPs start seeing us organising things locally as well!
